One of the gang that meets at Lake Elmo every Saturday is a former B-17 pilot, Roger Rand, who trained in an AT-17, and was shot down over Cologne during the Battle of the Bulge. His story is really interesting and hopefully I'll get it in writing soon. Briefly, he and his crew took a new B-17 to Wales with only a few hours of B-17 time, and then went on 21 missions before being shot down. Roger met us at our Bamboo Bomber at a pancake breakfast two years ago. This year he again soloed in a 152 after being away from flying since 1944!! Here are some pictures of Roger. This is a copy ofDick and Jeannie Hill's card (like a baseball card) with their T-50, the "Bimbo Bomber". The reverse side, shown below shows all the specifications. Dick tells me that his plane is down for service for a while with new engine mounts and other work. He's and Jeannie have been regulars at Oshkosh, Sun'n'Fun, and many other fly-ins.
This is Larry Kelley's T-50 at Oshkosh a few years ago. His mechanic, Paul Burkey, is standing alongside. Larry has purchased a B-25. Is he starting his own Air Force?
